OK, so this is a great website design for BBH advertising company. It has a simple colour palette; black background with white and grey text then red to indicated the page scrollers. This appeals to me alot as I like dark colours. The idea that you can drag the page up and down and also left and right to reveal more of the website is a great interactive design feature which I had not come across before. I think they also have a good balance between text and image. The fact the images are large and of high quality means they are eyecatching as you navigate their website.

Jonathan Barnbrook is a graphic designer who is off great insperation to me. I can honestly say I like all of his work as he uses layers of images with text to make his own comments on social and political issues. His work is controversial but he always stays true to his beliefs. His book 'Barnbrook Bible', I have found to be very inspiring and interesting. Most famously he is known for designing his own fonts such as 'Mason', which was renamed from 'Manson', 'Exocet' and 'Bastard'. Although i like his Fonts- particularly Mason, because of its architectural look, such as that of the 'M' reminds me of roman architecture- I prefer his political work because it is so bold.

This is one of the pieces of art commissioned for the olympics. It was designed by Monica Bonvicini. It is one of the biggest pieces standing at 9 metres tall, and it can be found at the plaza. This is a very clean and modern piece achieved by it being a san serif font and the fact it is made from steel and reflective glass. It reflects the image of the 2012 Olympics well! because of the new building work which has been created especially for the event.

This is a new typeface called 'Die Modularitat' by Alex Camacho, designed for the Neo2 Magazine. Personally this typeface reminds me of Pacman. I think the lower case letters work better as the letters are more easily distinguished such as the 'W' and 'K'. If I was to see these letters not in alphabetical order It would take me a bit of time to work out if they were symbols or a letter. I think this typeface could only be used as a bold title, anything else and they could be mistaken for just symbols and be overlooked. However I do like there clean cut finish and I particularly like the 'H' as it stands out to me when I look at all the letters together. This could be because it is the letter which most resembles itself, as well as it having a good balance between its thickness and neative space around it.

These Chilli sauce bottles were illustrated by Steve Simpson for 'Mic's chilli Company' in Ireland. The illustrations are vibrant and funny which suits the product, as chilli is colourful and it can be funny watching people eat chilli! . They are eye catching because of there 'funky' design. The illustrations of dragons pulling an angry face also sugest the produst is strong and spicey/fiery.

This 'Close Guantanamo Bay' poster by Anita Wasik is a favourite of mine. It's simplicity is effective. The use of negative space emphasis the images on the page. The barbwire suggests imprisonment, and the birds could symbolise us, the audience looking in. The choice to put the birds in orange aswell as the ' Close' could mean that we can help to close Guantanamo Bay and not just be spectators to what we know is wrong.

This is a music video created by Ivan Yu a Motion Graphic designer and director from Hong Kong. I particularly like this piece because of its use of dark faded colours. It is also quite mesmerizing as the focus is on small objects such as a butterfly flying and floating dust. Although I cant understand the lyrics, the images are pieced together in time with the instrumental parts of the song, which means the video is still telling a story. One clip (1:42) shows the women by a lake, the screen flickers twice and she then burst into many butterflys. I think this was a very smooth transition from the women being whole to her being in piecies, again it also fits with the instrumental.

MusaWork Lab
MusaWorkLab are a Graphic Design Studio based in Lisbon, Portugal. They formed in 2003 to promote young talent to the Portugese design world. These designers try and be involved withh many fun projects as they can , which is important to keep their creative minds fresh. And also, so they continue enjoying their jobs. They always try and make their work innovative which makes it fresh. The first image 'Fashion Force' is a striking piece by them. It's like its screaming at you to break the rules and boundaries, its emphasised more by the backgound being in black and white also. The second piece which is a invitation design, this caught my eye because of the bright blue against the black. It is a simple design but the colours are very inviting and the design within the 'E' is interesting.

Vaughan Oliver

Vaughan Oliver is a designer who illustrates for music. He is best know for work he did for 'The Pixies' and 'Cocteau Twins'. His work is breathtaking and very expressive. He is great at what he does because hes experimental and his designs show that he engages with the music he is designing for. It has been said he never enjoyed typography at school but as you can see from the images I have chosen , he knows what font and where to position it on a page to enhance the piece.

The two images above are of a wedding invitation, designed by Rory Sutherland for his wedding. This is a quircky and inventive piece and will be remembered by all those who recieved the invitation im sure. He used laser cutting to design them, and because they can be taken apart its a great interactive bit of design. His use of typography I think has worked successfully, as he has used various fonts for each bit of information on the canvas, which makes the invitation clear despite the leading and kerning being adjusted as a visual design.
